Frequently Asked Questions
With DJ Markoshi, he's happy to provide the information you need to help you select the right DJ for your event. Here are answers to some of the most common questions he gets:
Services & Style
What types of events are your specialty?
As mentioned before, Markoshi is a versatile, open-format DJ. He's done nightclub residencies, guest performances in cities across Canada, corporate events, and weddings of all-types and protocols. However, Markoshi does not book children’s parties or school events.
I don’t want the music at my wedding to be traditional wedding music. Can you do that?
Of course! That's a common concern with weddings – he's here to incorporate the music you request, and to mix it in a way that will create the kind of wedding you’ve envisioned. Somewhere along the line, the phrase “wedding DJ” became a bad word, synonymous with cheesiness. He couldn’t be any further from that image.
Do you use party props or "gimmicks"?
No. Markoshi does not dress in any type of costume or distribute silly props to the crowd. He also won't harass your guests into joining on the dance floor, nor does he teach them how to line dance. If you are seeking a performer to motivate your guests in this way, you would probably be happier with another deejay company – there are a few who specialize in this interactive style of entertainment!
Do you offer additional services, such as ceremony musicians, lighting and photobooths?
His business model has always centred on the service that Markoshi knows best: fantastic DJ entertainment. He's happy to provide recorded music and microphones for weddings (and he does, for about 75% of his clients). If live ceremony musicians are your preference, he's glad to refer you to the area’s most talented and reputable strings ensembles, guitarists, harpists and more. Markoshi also don’t provide lighting in-house, as he strongly feels that quality lighting is a complex luxury service that should be furnished by a lighting design specialist. For complex lighting services, he's happy to, upon request, refer you to other trusted professional partners. For photobooths, also a specialty service deserving of an expert provider, Markoshi has created a few business relationships with the area’s leading photobooth companies to offer our clients an exclusive package at a very special rate.
Music Selection & Mixing
How involved are you in helping us to plan our music?
Just as you pay a caterer for their expertise in food, you are entrusting Markoshi for his expertise in music. He's more than willing to provide you with a multitude of suggestions based on your preferences, and perfectly comfortable selecting most (or all) of the music if you aren’t interested in doing so. His extensive knowledge of music enables him to work with your requests and create a mood that reflects your tastes while creating a great atmosphere for all of your guests. In addition, we specialize in addressing music “challenges,” whether combining multicultural musical styles or adapting unique or eclectic music tastes to the formality of a wedding. Markoshi is always available to answer questions or assist you in choosing the songs that will reflect your vision of your special day.
How involved can we be in selecting music for our event?
It's encouraged that you be as involved as you would like to be! Most clients place great value on music and probably have very distinct ideas about what they want to hear. If you would like to select every song, he's happy to accommodate you. The majority of clients, however, prefer to discuss in depth, their preferences and at least a few specific requests. Markoshi prides himself on listening to clients and respecting their input and wishes, while providing additional suggestions and guidance when appropriate. Rest assured, you will never hear songs you have asked not to be played, or genres you’ve told us you don’t like.
What kinds of music are included in your collection?
After 21+ plus years of DJing, Markoshi owns an enormous library of music in all formats, including international music. He updates constantly, ensuring that he is able to provide the songs that clients and their guests are currently enjoying. Furthermore, he will work closely with clients in selecting the music for their event, and will gladly acquire any commercially available song that we don’t already own, at no additional cost. Because of this, he can virtually guarantee that we will be able to accommodate any request.
How do you mix the music?
Mixing is a pretty basic skill for any DJ, but how a DJ does it says a lot about his or her style. He mixes music with the purpose of creating seamless transitions between songs and maintaining the energy and momentum on the dance floor. Mixing for him is something he does on the spot, based on the tempo and “feel” of the songs and the reaction of the crowd. Markoshi don’t treat your wedding or event like it’s his personal nightclub appearance, and he definitely will not use your wedding to test out remixes that no one recognizes. He also won’t use any cheesy, pre-fabricated “DJ mixes” from subscription services.

Terms & Requirements
How much do you charge?
Markoshi creates a custom quote for each wedding or event, and will send you a complete and accurate price quote in the first email to you based on the date, time, and location of your wedding.
What is included in the price for my event?
The standard package includes 5-6 hours of performance time (additional time is available at a prorated hourly cost), setup time, breakdown time, and ALL equipment, including additional sound systems and wireless microphones for weddings with up to 300 guests. For events or weddings over 300 guests, a custom quote is necessary to ensure your event’s equipment and staffing needs are met. Flat-rate pricing is refreshingly easy to understand — there are no hidden charges, and all fees are clearly stated in your agreement with our company.
Do you offer any discounts?
If there are currently running any promotions or specials, we will include them in our price quote when you check our availability for your date. We’ll always give you our best price without you even needing to ask!
What areas do you serve?
Markoshi's standard rates include a travel radius of 60 kilometres (one-way) from Toronto, ON. This means he can cover the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) with no additional costs. For areas outside the GTA, this would need to be discussed in the initial meeting.
What are the terms of payment if I book your services?
An industry-standard, 50% non-refundable reservation fee is due with your signed agreement within 10 days in order to give you time to meet with Markoshi and make a decision. The balance payment for your event or wedding is due at the end of the event. Remainder of the balance is to be paid by cash, certified cheque or email money transfer (EMT).
What do you require from my event site?
He will require at least one 6-foot banquet table, with linens, and adequate power (120-volt, 15-amp circuit on a grounded outlet) within 35 feet of where the DJ will be set up.
When do you arrive to set up for an event?
Markoshi always arrive on-site at least an hour and a half prior to the contracted start time of the event, and earlier as necessitated by the setup requirements of the site.
What kind of equipment do you use?
For the ease of convenience, Markoshi uses a Pioneer DDJ-SX controller*, which has taken over two turntables and a mixer. For sound, there are two Yorkville PS12P 1400w 12” Speakers with stands. A wireless microphone is always provided, however wireless speakers (while available) are not an ideal option due to live mixing.
*Using a controller over turntables or CDJ's does not decrease the quality of the music mixed.
How are emergencies handled?
Markoshi takes the responsibility of performing for events and weddings extremely seriously, and is both contractually and ethically obligated to do everything possible to avoid emergencies. However, to ensure your event’s complete success, every weekend he reserves one his DJ contacts to be the “Emergency DJ” on call. That DJ is prepared with appropriate attire, equipment, and the music and paperwork for every wedding on our schedule. In addition, the Emergency DJ brings a full set of backup equipment to every event in case of equipment issues. This system is the most comprehensive emergency backup plan in the entire country — a worthwhile investment in the clients’ peace of mind.
Will you bring an assistant?
Short answer? For weddings, rarely. Unless you’re planning a highly interactive, “New York style” wedding that needs a separate emcee/party motivator to dance with your guests (something we don’t offer, though we can refer you to other companies who do), DJing a wedding is a one-person job. DJs who always bring an assistant do so because they don’t want to carry the equipment, or they want someone to fetch them drinks, or they want to break down and load out faster at the end of the night. Markoshi was raised on old-school DJ principles - that’s something you don't need to pay for, and unless he feels there’s a valid reason for the second person, he will be there on his own. The one consistent exception is for events with 300+ people, which requires a significantly larger sound system, additional speakers, and considerable added labor – the rates for these types of events include all of this equipment plus two separate DJs to transport, set up, and operate it all.
